| Position Overview
The Senior Accountant / Team Lead will lead, manage, and mentor a team of 6 accountants, ensuring accuracy, quality, and timely delivery of accounting tasks. Operating in a purely back-office capacity with no direct client-facing duties, this role serves as the primary technical quality check (first reviewer) for junior accountants' work before final review by Australian accountants. The role is pivotal in bridging communication with Australian partners, driving team training and development, and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Key Responsibilities
1. Team Leadership & Management
- People Management: Lead, manage, and support a team of 6 accountants.
- Workload & Performance Monitoring: Monitor the team's workload, set clear deadlines, and maintain strict quality standards to ensure smooth delivery.
- Coaching & Development: Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance to improve the team’s overall technical expertise, efficiency, and performance.
- Onboarding & Induction: Conduct orientation and on-the-job training for junior team members and new hires.
2. Technical Quality & Review
- First-Level Review: Act as the primary first reviewer for all accounting work completed by junior accountants, ensuring accuracy and compliance prior to final review by local Australian accountants.
- Complex Problem Solving: Guide junior accountants on complex accounting matters, technical questions, and task execution.
- Process Improvement & SOPs: Take full ownership of developing, maintaining, and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for team workflows and quality assurance.
3. Operational Communication & Coordination
- Partner Collaboration: Communicate and coordinate directly with Australian partners regarding task allocation, workflow requirements, and ongoing project status.
- Internal Coordination: Act as the operational bridge between the internal accounting team and Australian partners to maintain clear, efficient, and transparent workflow communications.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience:
- Proven experience working within an Australian accounting firm or solid exposure to Australian accounting standards, practices, and tax compliance frameworks.
- Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience managing small-to-medium teams.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong expertise in core accounting principles, financial reporting, and Australian accounting practices.
- Ability to review complex working papers and tax schedules accurately.
- Experience creating and documenting process guidelines or Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
