Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Raw Material Purchasing Executive / Assistant Manager to lead procurement activities for raw materials. This role is responsible not only for purchasing execution, but also for supplier strategy, cost optimization, and supply risk management. The ideal candidate must be able to communicate effectively in Mandarin, English, and Bahasa Malaysia, particularly for managing China-based suppliers and negotiations.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Sourcing
- Lead sourcing strategy for raw materials
- Identify, evaluate, and develop new suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and supply continuity
- Manage RFQ/RFP processes and conduct commercial negotiations
Cost Management
- Drive cost reduction initiatives (price negotiation, alternative sourcing, bulk purchasing, etc.)
- Monitor market trends (raw material price fluctuations, currency, supply risks)
- Analyze cost breakdowns and propose cost-saving strategies
Supplier Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers
- Conduct supplier audits and performance evaluations (quality, delivery, cost)
- Handle supplier escalation, dispute resolution, and contract management
Operations & Planning
- Oversee purchasing operations, ensuring timely issuance of PO and delivery tracking
- Work closely with Production, Planning, QA, and Warehouse teams
- Ensure optimal inventory levels aligned with production needs
Risk & Compliance
- Identify supply chain risks and develop mitigation strategies
- Ensure compliance with company policies, audit requirements, and procurement standards
- Manage import/export documentation and regulatory requirements
Leadership & Process Improvement
- Mentor and guide junior purchasing staff
- Improve procurement processes, systems, and workflows (ERP/MRP optimization)
- Participate in cross-functional projects and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field
- 5–10 years of experience in procurement / purchasing (manufacturing environment required)
- Proven experience in raw material sourcing and supplier negotiation
- Mandarin proficiency is required (to liaise with China-based suppliers)
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and strategic thinking skills
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (cost analysis, reporting)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in industries such as manufacturing, electronics, plastics, metals, or FMCG
- Familiar with global sourcing and international trade (Incoterms, logistics, customs)
- Experience handling high-value procurement or critical materials
